Patrick O’Brien received his Juris Doctorate from John Marshall Law School. Patrick began his legal career at the Kankakee County State’s Attorney’s Office. During his time as a prosecutor, Patrick handled hundreds of cases ranging from traffic offenses to DUIs to felony charges. Patrick then entered private practice and works part time as a Kankakee County Public Defender. His diverse litigation background and successful advocacy eventually led him to take on a wider array of cases in private practice. He now handles many different types of family law cases, evictions, and administrative law cases in addition to criminal defense work. Patrick is also a licensed mediator and regularly handles family law mediations.

EDUCATION & BAR ADMISSIONS

Patrick received his Juris Doctorate from John Marshall Law School in 2012.
He studied History and Political Science at Lewis University and graduated in 2006.
Patrick is also a 2002 graduate of St. Rita at Cascia.
Patrick is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association and the Kankakee Bar Association.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT & INTERESTS

Patrick is an active member of the Kankakee community. He regularly donates time and volunteers with Prairie State Legal Services, which serves low-income individuals who need legal assistance. In 2018 Patrick was honored to be named by the Kankakee County Chamber of Commerce’s 40 Under Forty.  Patrick has been a guest speaker at numerous events hosted by local organizations on issues of domestic violence, expungements, and criminal justice. Outside of work, Patrick is an avid golfer, skier, and connoisseur of Star Wars and Simpsons trivia. Additionally, Patrick enjoys traveling to unique locales and learning new languages.
